Mastering the Art of Letting Go: The Power of Affirmations
Letting go doesn’t happen in the blink of an eye. I wish people around me knew that. We can’t let go just because a friend nonchalantly said, “move on” or “just let it go”. How can we? We built our whole lives around them; we poured our hearts, minds, and tears into that one thing, person, or dream. When something precious to us ends, most of us deny the truth, we try to hold on- desperately clinging to any shred of hope. It’s that hope that gets me everytime. The hope that maybe it isn’t really ending. The miserable wish that perhaps I can do something to make it right again- to make it whole once more. I realized one morning that maybe I was hoping for the wrong things. Instead of hoping for things to be back to how they were, maybe I should hope that things go well for me tomorrow, the next day, and the day after that. Maybe I should hope that I could let go and find happiness where it’s meant for me. There are things I regret, chances I never took, moments I wished I could relive- but in the end, all I could do was let go and watch the Universe’s will unfold.
Affirmations for Letting Go of a Dream
Most of us have unfulfilled wishes and ambitions- fantasies that occupy our daydreams and transport us to a land of happiness and contentment. Sometimes, I long to just live in those daydreams. I always hoped that maybe, just maybe, those dreams could become realities, but oftentimes, the Universe doesn’t work that way. The Universe may have different plans for us- a future that none of us would have ever imagined. And the thing is, we can always be proud of ourselves no matter where we are in life. Our little wins, milestones, even losses- these are things that we can revel in, moments we can celebrate if we let go of what’s not meant for us.
“Good things are in store for me, I just have to wait and do my best in everything.”
Watching the Universe’s miracles unfold, waiting for good things to happen, can be slow and gradual; sometimes, we might even think that those good things will never come. Here’s a spoiler for all of us: it will come. Sometimes, it comes in bits and pieces, and occasionally, it comes in the form of a huge milestone. As much as we want to, we can’t skip to the good parts of our lives because if we will, we won’t enjoy them, we won’t revel in them. So in the meantime, we have to do everything in our power to manifest the good things, to do our very best in our passions and everything that we do, so when the good things do come, it will feel well-deserved and meant to be.
“Today I leave behind my old dreams and welcome the new ones.”
The dreams and wishes that we long for today won’t always be what we’ll desire in the future. As time constantly changes, so do our hopes, aspirations, and selves. This affirmation reminds us that it’s okay to release the dreams that no longer serve us and to make space for new possibilities in the future. I know one thing for sure- it doesn’t cost a cent to dream and we could always create new goals that will let us grow and thrive, all because we can let go of the unfulfilled dreams we made when we were younger.
“If I’m brave enough to say goodbye, life will reward me with a new hello.”
This affirmation, taken from Paulo Coelho’s original quote, reminds us that when one door closes, another one opens. Limiting ourselves to our unfulfilled dreams will only serve to frustrate and disappoint us. It closes our minds to the possibilities of opportunities just beyond our grasp. We have so much potential, so many talents and gifts that we can give to the world if we open ourselves to dreaming and starting anew. Letting go of an unfulfilled dream isn’t the end, rather, it’s the bridge to new beginnings.
Affirmations for Letting Go of Someone
Letting go of someone significant to us can be one of the most challenging experiences in life. Whether it’s a romantic partner, a friend, or a family member, the process of letting go can be painful, emotional, and arduous. We spend many nights cycling through missing them, resenting them, and wishing they were back. The thing is, if we hold onto them, we’ll never be able to cultivate self-love and forgiveness for ourselves.
“I release this person with love and compassion.”
This affirmation helps us let go of people with kindness and understanding rather than with anger and resentment. Holding on to resentment poisons our minds- it directs our actions towards spitefulness and closes us off to the possibility of healing and forgiveness. When we direct our energy towards letting go with love and compassion, we prepare ourselves to welcome new people into our lives- people who will love and care for us, treat us with gentleness, and transform us into better people.
“I am grateful for the time we spent together and the lessons I learned.”
Letting go can be a source of growth and learning for us- they teach us valuable lessons and help us discover our self-worth. This affirmation reframes our perspectives and helps us focus on the positive aspects of the relationships we had. Acknowledging the lessons we learned and the experiences we shared with someone can release the pain, unresolved emotions, and anguish and help us move forward with gratitude and a fresh outlook on life. This affirmation reminds us to see past relationships as blessings for we have learned from them lessons that we will bring for the rest of our journey. They may not be part of our new beginnings but the lessons will always be there to remind us that letting go truly was for the best.
“I am worthy of love and happiness.”
Part of the reason we hold onto someone so tight is because we fear something so great won’t happen twice. Sometimes, we are so convinced that we will never feel the same way about someone else again or that we won’t find someone who understands us in the way they did. But the thing is, if we keep seeking love and happiness from our past relationships, was it really great to begin with? The truth is, the people we let go of weren’t meant for us- they weren’t meant to give us love and happiness. If we force them and hold onto them tightly, we won’t be able to see our real worth, and so, for our sake, we let them go. This affirmation reminds us that we deserve so much more and that we are worthy of the love we give. Letting go is the only way for us to really find the happiness that the Universe has destined for us. We remind ourselves everyday that we are worthy of that love and happiness and that we should never settle for less.
Affirmations for Letting Go of the Past
Letting go means putting the past behind us, it entails forgiveness for ourselves and the others that we let go of. Getting stuck in the past is never easy, especially when it still lingers in the dark corners of our minds. While the past taught us valuable lessons, we have to look at our present and future with a fresh perspective and an open heart-only then will we be able to perceive what’s really meant for us and only then will we get to see the good things we already have.
“The past does not define who I am today or who I will be tomorrow.”
If there’s one thing I’ve been doing wrong all this time, it’s that I kept reliving the bad moments of my life. I kept obsessing and focusing on all my bitterness and mistakes and it didn’t do me any good at all- I just became insecure and afraid to live life. We all make mistakes and we all hurt other people sometimes, but that’s okay, that’s part of life. Mistakes inspire growth, self-awareness, and courage. We can always redefine ourselves, our values, and our identity. When we learn to correct our mistakes, let go of our past, and vow to be better the next time around, that’s us growing and transforming into better humans and that’s all that matters.
“I am healing at my own pace, and I will be at peace.”
Manifesting healing and peace is a great way to start letting go of the past. We all heal at different stages, and the one thing we have to remember through all this is that healing is not a race. It isn’t a competition we can win by healing and moving on faster than the people who hurt us or that we’ve hurt. I realized that I can only win in life when I heal fully from the pain and trauma; I realized that peace may just be within my reach if I just let go of the anchors of past hurt and unresolved emotions weighing me down.
“I accept myself, I love myself, and I’m moving forward.”
No one can accept us if we don’t accept ourselves- that’s a cardinal rule I learned to live by for some years now. I realized that constantly berating myself for my past only made me more uncertain and insecure. I felt unlovable even when others loved me because I believed that I didn’t deserve their love and appreciation. This affirmation reminded me that the only way for me to move forward is to let go of the past, release all lingering emotions, and love myself for the flawed beautiful human being that I am. We all have pasts and despite that, we still deserve love, happiness, and acceptance.
Letting Go and Starting Anew: Affirmations for the Brave Soul Inside
We let go of so many things and people in life- a pair of jeans that won’t fit us anymore, a job that no longer serves our growth, even a family member who doesn’t respect our boundaries- it’s scary because after all, we’re navigating uncharted territory. What assured me through the process is the promise of new beginning, growth, and progress. Affirmations are like self-healing words we tell ourselves to assure us that everything is going to be fine. We repeat these affirmations over and over and we feel them embracing us like fluffy comforter on a winter night. These affirmations remind us that even if we let go, we will be alright and we will keep on going on.
“Letting go means I am getting closer to the Universe’s will and all the good things that come with it.”
“I’ve been brave, I’ve always done my best, now, I just have to wait and manifest all my hopes and dreams unto the Universe.”
